Resolution of the Parliament of Georgia on the Approval of the "Document of National Goals of General Education"

 

National Goals for General Education:

a) raising a citizen who possesses national and state values and is aware of their rights, duties, and responsibilities towards the family, society, and the State;
b) raising a patriotic and state-minded citizen who has knowledge of the state language, culture, and the history of Georgia;
c) raising a citizen who is familiar with universal cultural heritage, adheres to and upholds universal ethical principles, and respects ethnic and cultural diversity;
d) raising a citizen who contributes to the building of a peaceful, harmonious, and inclusive society;
e) raising a tolerant and fair citizen with a high level of civic awareness, who knows and upholds internationally recognised principles of democracy and associates these values with patriotism, statehood, and universal human ideals;
f) raising a literate citizen equipped with analytical and critical thinking skills and academic knowledge, receptive to progressive innovations, who not only recognises and values the achievements of others but also creates new intellectual and material values for the benefit of society;
g) raising a citizen prepared for independent living, capable of making conscious personal decisions, who is thoughtful, inquisitive, creative, informed, and responsible, who continuously develops his/her abilities and interests throughout life, adheres to a healthy lifestyle, and is diligent;
h) raising a citizen with a high culture of communication through the promotion of physical, intellectual, moral, and aesthetic development;
i) raising an individual capable of exercising “digital citizenship” skills in the modern technological world;
j) raising a citizen with environmental awareness, capable of responding to and acting upon the risks caused by climate change, and linking such actions to personal, national, regional, and global development goals.

 


Levels of secondary school

Full general education includes three levels and 12 years.
The levels of full general education are
A) Primary - I-VI grades;
B) Basic VII-X grades;
C) Secondary - XI-XII grades.

 

Primary and basic education is mandatory.


 Acquisition of complete general education shall imply:

(a) completing secondary educational level of general education, on the basis of which a document certifying complete general education shall be issued;
(b) completing secondary vocational education program, in which the study results of the secondary educational level of general education are integrated, and certifying the completion of the said program according to the procedure established by the Ministry, on the basis of which a diploma, a document certifying a secondary vocational education, and a document certifying complete general education, shall be issued, except for the cases provided for by the Law of Georgia on Vocational Education.
