25 March 2026

With the support of the WHO Regional Office for Europe and the European Union, a regional working meeting was held in Yerevan, the capital of the Republic of Armenia, on the theme of “Improving the Education and Regulation of the Health Workforce in the Eastern Partnership Countries.”
The event was attended by representatives of the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement from the Qualifications Development Department and the Higher Education Quality Assurance Department.

The purpose of the workshop (working meeting) was to support the strengthening of education and regulatory mechanisms for nurses and physicians in the Eastern Partnership countries, namely Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Moldova, and Ukraine.

The event provides an important platform to ensure compliance of nursing and medical education systems in the region with international standards.
The Centre’s representatives delivered a presentation on the quality assurance and development of nursing and medical education in Georgia.
Particular attention was devoted during the meeting to the exchange of best practices in nursing and medical education, patient safety, and professional ethics.

In the concluding session, each country identified its priority areas for reform and outlined an action plan, as well as the technical assistance and expert support that could potentially be provided by the WHO.

The meeting will facilitate the exchange of experience among countries, the enhancement of the quality of educational programmes in the healthcare sector, and their integration with international best practice.
